1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order at 5:23pm. Commissioners present: Christine Huynh, Kyron Covington, Nicholas Persky, Mia Shackelford. Commissioner absent: Sarah Armstrong. Staff present: Phimy Truong. There was quorum.

 

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Shackelford, seconded by Commissioner Covington, moved to approve the agenda. This motion was approved by acclamation.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

A. October 2, 2012

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Covington, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of October 2, 2012. This motion was approved by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)

There were none.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

A. Review committee S.M.A.R.T. goals

Committee members discussed priorities, and reviewed S.M.A.R.T. goals. Members decided to focus on the Summer Jobs+ priority right now.

B. Prepare for the Summer Jobs+ presentation by United Way and DCYF, set for the next full Youth Commission meeting of November 5, 2012
Committee members then split up to work on preparing for the Summer Jobs+ presentation at the next full Youth Commission meeting. Commissioner Shackelford spent time drafting an overview of the Summer Jobs+. Commissioners Persky, Huynh, and Covington spent time preparing questions and discussing the feedback they have heard from peers and various employment service providers.

Committee members agreed to invite youth employment service providers to the next meeting, and get the word out to other youth. Members agreed to work on assessing whatever data is included in the presentation on November 5th, and getting feedback from the community about their proposed resolution.

6. Items to Report to Executive Committee (Action Item)

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Covington, moved to report the following items to the Executive Committee: the youth employment committee will be spending time preparing for the Summer Jobs+ presentation, and plan to work on a resolution which evaluates Summer Jobs+ and include recommendations and feedback gathered from youth and service providers. This motion was approved by acclamation.

7. Executive Committee Report (Discussion Only)

There was no report from the Executive Committee.

8. Adjournment

The meeting was adjourned at 6:51pm.
