Members: Christine Huynh, Kyron Covington, Sarah Armstrong, Nicholas Persky, Mia Shackelford

1. Call to Order and Roll Call

The meeting was called to order at 5:04 p.m. Commissioners present: Christine Huynh, Kyron Covington, Sarah Armstrong, Nicholas Persky, and Mia Shackelford. Staff present: Phimy Truong. There was quorum.

2. Approval of Agenda (Action Item)

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Covington, seconded by Commissioner Shackelford, moved to approve the agenda. This motion was approved unanimously.

3. Approval of Minutes (Action Item)

A. November 15, 2012

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Shackelford, seconded by Commissioner Persky, moved to approve the minutes to the meeting of November 15, 2012. This motion was approved unanimously by acclamation.

4. Public Comment on Items not on Agenda (Discussion Only)

Allen Lu, introduced himself and expressed his interest in observing commissioners at work.

5. Business (All Items to Follow Discussion and Possible Action)

A. Check in

Each commissioner shared one good thing about their week.

B. Finalize & plan next steps for Summer Jobs+ resolution

Commissioners then spent some time reviewing and making final edits to their resolution on continuing Summer Jobs+ into 2013 and beyond. Commissioners agreed to email the resolution out to youth employment service providers and city departments involved for feedback. Commissioner Covington volunteered to draft emails to city departments and youth employment service providers. Commissioner Shackelford volunteered to email the resolution out and follow up with departments and service providers. Commissioners then set a timeline for their resolution. There will be a first reading of the resolution on December 17th, 2012 and a second reading on January 7, 2013.

C. Work on S.M.A.R.T. goals (goals that are smart, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely)

Commissioners agreed to split up and spend some time to work on different committee priorities. Commissioners Armstrong, Huynh, and Shackelford prepared for their meeting with Joaquin Torres, Office of Economic Workforce Development, while Commissioners Persky and Covington discussed deferred action policy.

Commissioners regrouped after some time, and updated each other on their work.

There was no public comment.

There was no official action taken on these items.

6. Items to Report to Executive Committee (Action Item)

There was no public comment.

Commissioner Persky, seconded by Commissioner Armstrong, moved to report the following items to the Executive Committee: the committee would like to have a first reading of the Summer Jobs+ resolution at the full commission meeting of December 17th and an update of committee members meeting with Joaquin Torres. This motion was approved unanimously.


7. Executive Committee Report (Discussion Only)

Commissioner Persky urged his colleagues to attend the bay area wide youth commission summit planning meeting on December 7th. Commissioners Covington and Huynh shared that they would be attending the planning meeting.

There was no public comment. There was no official action taken.
