Expanded Language Assistance & Services Pilot Program

The Board of Supervisors has expanded its Language Access Services Program in partnership with the Office of the Clerk of the Board and Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs (OCEIA). During the 11-month Pilot Program, beginning September 1, 2015, to July 31, 2016, OCEIA staff will attend and provide Spanish and Chinese interpretation, upon request, at every regular and special Board of Supervisors meeting. Filipino interpretation will be provided with a 48 hour advance request. Interpretation for all Committee meetings will require a 48 hour advance request.

During the Pilot Period, OCEIA will translate certain Public Notices, and a document listing the titles of Legislation Introduced at Roll Call each week by the Board of Supervisors, Mayor and City Departments. The Office of the Clerk of the Board will post the translated documents on the Board’s website.

It shall be City policy that during this Pilot Program OCEIA will provide these services to the extent practicable in light of staffing constraints; but failure to provide translation or interpretation shall not affect the validity of any matter considered by the Board of Supervisors.
